A Seattle resident is starting the new year $1 million richer after claiming a prize he won from a Mega Millions drawing back in July 2016. The winner purchased his ticket from a Lynnwood Fred Meyer (4615 196th St SW #175, Lynnwood, WA 98036).

“I have a friend from the United Kingdom who comes to visit every so often and we were out for a walk when we decided to play the Lottery,” said the winner. “I told myself I would play whichever game my friend chose and used the Quick Pick feature to choose my numbers.” 

The man told Washington’s Lottery officials that taking home a jackpot of this size is a great way to end 2016. The winner plans to use the money to buy a new home with his partner in Seattle.
